CÉAD MÍLE FOCAL
Céad Míle Focal’s first full year of trading took place in 2015.
Diarmuid Clifford founded the business having gained over ten years’ experience of professional translation work.
The name ‘Céad Míle Focal’ is a play on words, based on the well-known Irish phrase ‘Céad Míle Fáilte’ (a hundred thousand welcomes).
This demonstrates one of our guiding principles – to supply a personal, friendly service to our customers always.
Our motto, ‘Aistriúchán den chéad scoth le croí mór’ (‘Top-quality translation with a big heart’), demonstrates this same principle.
The door is never closed; even after the translation is finished and submitted to the client, we are still available to help them if any issue needs to be looked after or if amendments need to be made.
Céad Míle Focal’s work is always of the very highest standard.
We are not satisifed until we have achieved excellence – the full meaning of the original text is transmitted, the very finest Irish (or English) is in use, the grammar is perfect and the text is easy to read and to understand.
Very few translations achieve these goals and that is why Céad Míle Focal stands out from other translation businesses.
He has achieved both of Foras na Gaeilge's professional qualifications – the Accreditation Seal for Translators (2006) and the Accreditation Seal for Editors (2011).
He is one of just eight translators to hold the Seal for Editors.
He has been translating and proofreading for the past 11 years.
He spent periods working for eTeams International and for Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge (National University of Ireland, Galway) before becoming a freelance translator and proofreader in 2008.
Diarmuid is a recognised expert in the area of grammar and has an in-depth knowledge of every area of Irish grammar and of the Official Standard for Irish grammar.
Céad Míle Focal has formed a team of some of the country's leading freelance translators to work with Diarmuid Clifford on the bigger projects.
All of Céad Míle Focal's translators have been awarded the Seal of Accreditation for Translators by Foras na Gaeilge.
